Sabbath Update

Hello all,

How was your weekend? Did you rest on Sunday?

I have to tell you that this was very difficult for me. On Thursday I left to go to our annual homeschool convention. I stayed in a hotel from Thursday through Saturday. This is a very busy time for me and I am going non-stop during this conference. First I must shop, shop, shop at all of the booths selling curriculum until I've purchased everything we will need for the upcoming school year. Next, there's visiting with all of the precious Mom's that I've known over the years (it's like a family reunion). And of course there are the sessions, I find that they are always helpful, all in all this is a draining but necessary couple of days.

I woke up on Saturday not feeling the best, I was probably just exhausted. So, I came home in the afternoon and just went to bed. I wasn't planning on being so very tired but that's just the way I felt. I stayed in bed until dinner and I went right back to bed afterwards. This brought me to Sunday.

I've heard it said that a picture is worth 1,000 words so I wanted to show you a picture of my 6 year olds room. This is what it looked like on Sunday morning. Ok Ladies, this was a real moral dilemma at first, should we clean it because life is happier when it's clean, or should I let it go. After discussing it with my husband, we decided to let it go (until tomorrow). Now, I hope you're homes weren't this out of control, but I tell you, I'm enjoying the rest today. I even took another nap! Today we rest, but tomorrow we clean!

The scripture that helped me not have guilt about the mess was this one:

Exodus 34:21 Do your work in six days and rest on the seventh day, even during the seasons for plowing and harvesting.

I have come to realize that during the time to plow and harvest it must have been very tempting to go ahead and work on the Sabbath because they weren't finished with their work, but they weren't allowed to! The punishment for working on the Sabbath was DEATH! God takes this very seriously and so should we, whether in times of plowing or harvest, no excuses just rest. I have come to realize that we should plan on getting as much of our work done in six days as possible, but, if we aren't finished we still need to lay it down for 1 day and honor God with rest.

If you tried to rest on Sunday, leave a comment to tell us how it went!

LOL! Wait til she is a teenager! My daughter has a "floordrobe" because every item of clothing she owns is on the floor!

I have learned to turn a blind eye, not just on Sunday!

I decided that almost everything is work! But for instance, making meals - just as the disciples & Jesus picked the wheat on the sabboth - was necessary for my kids. Even getting everyone ready & out the door for church is work! But again, appropriate and necessary. The real work I didn't do is laundry. That is my most dreaded job and it was nice to not do it. I did relax some and we didn't have any pressing agenda...even extra activities can be "work" when you are running here and there with kids. So it was a nice day.

Good luck on your cleaning today!

Even though I did not rest this Sunday I hope in some way I blessed all of the patients I prayed for while I was working. I am a nurse and work two weekends a month. People still get sick/hurt on Sunday- so I'm glad I can be there for them.
It is important to honor God each day and especially on Sunday which is His gift to us. He lovingly takes care of our every need...rest being one of them!

Mark 2:27 "Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath,

Sweet Patterson 5, I hope you realize that "sunday" is not a magical day, as a matter of fact Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath, I believe that God looks at the heart, not the law. Based on that if you have a weekend shift, then serve, like you said, people still get hurt on Sundays. But, I encourage you to consider taking another day that week and make it a day of rest for you and your kids. :)

Last week when I read your blog, "Work", I accepted your challenge and claimed I would rest on Sunday. I failed. AND, I didn't even realize it until this morning. I cleaned the house yesterday (Sunday) and not once did I even think about your challenge and even more importantly God's will that we need to rest. As for my house, it looked great yesterday but there is always work to do and today it looks almost as it did before I cleaned. Lesson learned. I am going to Re-Take your challenge this Sunday and do my best to remember my priorities.

P.S. I loved your comment to my Rosanna Rosanna Danna blog...go back and read the Return comment I left to you.
P.S.S. Thanks for your inspiring blogs.

I did rest and enjoyed the day with my church family and with my family family. But I will say, that room would have tempted me to act! That's what Mondays are for.
