Vacation?

We are leaving Massanutten Resort today to travel home. The view up on this mountain is breathtaking. Pictures cannot do it justice!

As the mother of six children I'd like to point out that vacations don't mean a break for mom! For years I would go with the wrong expectation and I would end up discouraged and depressed. Over the years I have grown (thanks be to God). I now know that vacations are a time to spend together.

This vacation came with its own set of issues. It all started on Tuesday night when I got sick! I spent half of the night in the bathroom and I awoke feeling achy and out of sorts. Wednesday was the day we had planned to go to the indoor/outdoor water park. That said, I got up and we went to the water park! As a mother we make these sacrifices. You know, in the end I had a good time. I didn't stay as long as the rest of my family but I made memories while I was there.

Being a mother is a very hard job, it's also the most rewarding job of all. I am thankful for these vacations, issues and all. I hope that if you are a mother and planning a vacation this summer that you will have the right expectations. Remember that vacation isn't about a break for mom, but time together as a family. Then go and make good memories! Enjoy your family while you have them with you.

Proverbs 31:18 She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Wow. You hit the nail on the head. I finally realized that last year when my 2 boys, one of their friends and I went to SC for a week. Once I realized that vacation with kids is going to require alot of the same day to day routines and is usually more work than had I stayed home, I refocused my energies on making sure they had fun. Because of that my stress lowered, I was less irritable and we ALL had a great time.
(Lazer Tag is fun even if you are over 40!)

This is SO true! Vacation is an opportunity to for mom to do her work in a new location! After a week at the beach, (packing before and unpacking and laundry after), but all the meals, laundry, etc while we were there - - I'm tired!

But I wouldn't trade these memories my kids are making for anything! We didn't go on vacation when I was young, so I enjoy it for my kids.

Yes you are so right!

Lucky you didn't get a "man cold"! LOL! Then you would have been incapacitated for the entire week!

There are no vacations for mom unless the kids go somewhere WITHOUT you! Right? Family vacations hold lots of fun things, but relaxation never enters the picture!
Glad you are feeling better and that you had fun.
Love and Blessings,
Starr
